Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace
This one day 6 hour course is suitable for all personnel working in any industry and helps employers meet legal obligations regarding health and safety in the workplace the key topics include:· Identify hazards, risks and risk controls and understand the importance of risk assessment, with examples of everyday use of risk assessments
· Explain how to take appropriate workplace precautions and their importance in the working environment
· Appreciate the importance of a health and safety management system
· Explain emergency and accident plans and procedures and find out how and to whom to report accidents, incidents and near misses in their place of work
· Identify lines of communication in their place of work
· Identify safety signs and signals
· Carry out work activities without risk to themselves or others and understand the consequences if they fail to work safely.
The course ends with a short multi-choice test. -
Principles of Manual Handling
This is a half day course with a short multi choice test .Manual Handling is one of the main causes of injury in the workplace, to attend this course shows a commitment to train and protect your workforce from such injuries. This will produce both short term and long term benefits to all.By the end of the session delegates will be able to:
· Understand the causes of common back injuries
· Understand the principles of good movement
· Know how to apply these principles to their own work situations -
COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health)
This qualification is designed for those who use substances hazardous to health at work. It introduces candidates to substances, the risks and controls available, and outlines what to expect from a control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH) assessment. The qualification will prepare employees to contribute to the safer use of hazardous substances in their workplaces.The course content includes:
· Definition and types of substances hazardous to health in the workplace
· Health effects of hazardous substances and their causes
· COSHH assessments and control options
· Responsibilities imposed by the relevant current legislative regulations
The course ends with a short multi-choice test. -
Level 3 Certificate in Supervising Health and Safety
On this three day training course, delegates will gain an understanding of employers’ and employees’ legal responsibilities and the role of safety representatives and safety committees. Developing skills in promoting safe working practices within their organisation delegates will also gain an understanding of management’s role in accident prevention in addition to identifying workplace risks.By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
· Understand their roles and responsibilities in safety management
· Gain an understanding of how to apply risk assessment principles in practice
· Recognise the importance of effectively supervising young workers
· Recognise hazards and controls associated with the workplace and work equipment
· Understand the principles of accident investigation and reporting in accordance with legislation
· Acquire skills to apply proactive monitoring techniques within their area of responsibility -
Fire Safety Awareness
This course provides a clear understanding of the responsibilities, duties and role of a fire evacuation warden, enabling delegates to supervise a swift and safe evacuation of a buildingCourse content includes:
· Basic principles of combustion
· Common causes of fire
· Principles of fire prevention
· Selection and use of fire extinguishers
· Action on discovering a fire/evacuation drills
· Fire risk assessment
· Checking of emergency equipment and fire exits
The course is assessed through practical exercises through the course and a short end test. -
Level 3 Award in Risk Assessment
The emphasis of this course is that candidates will be able to perform risk assessments in their workplace .The main health and safety legislation requirement for employers is to conduct suitable and sufficient risk assessments. By the end of the course delegates will be able to:· Understand the practical application of risk assessment techniques
· Understand the specific requirements of lone, pregnant and young workers
· Develop hazard identification techniques
· Categorise and evaluate risk
· Understand the requirements for monitoring and reviewing risk assessments and managing risk assessment systems. -
Advanced Certificate in Health & Safety in the Workplace
The 5 day Level 4 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace is a qualification aimed at supervisors and managers with a direct responsibility for health and safety management.The qualification is intended for learners already working in the capacity of supervisor or manager and those who
are preparing to start work at this level.
Learners gaining this qualification will know that supervisors and managers have legal and moral obligations to ensure health and safety within a business and that this includes obligations to employees, contractors, visitors and suppliers. Its subject areas are regarded by the Health and Safety Executive as being important for developing safe working procedures in the workplace.
This qualification is assessed in two parts:
Part 1
Centre-set and marked assessment of 2 sections. Learners are expected to undertake the following activities:
• Section 1 Undertake a risk assessment
• Section 2 Construct a safe system of work
Part 2
Examination consisting of 2 sections with a total duration of 2.5 hours:
• Section 1 contains 30 multiple-choice questions.
• Section 2 contains 6 longer written questions from which the learner answers 4 of their choice.

Stress Awareness
A stand-alone qualification which complements the Level 2 Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace. The course raises awareness of the likely sources of work-related stress, symptoms and their effect and how they can be controlled.
